Synergistic Activities:
Mr. Elam has been at Rice University
for nine years, five as the Executive Director of the Computer and
Information Technology Institute and the last four as the
Associate Dean of Engineering for Research. His
present duties include management, promotion and development of new
research projects for the faculty in science and engineering, working
with both government and industrial partners.
In
addition to research development his duties include management of
conflicts of interest, cost share, and proposal reviews and
approval. In addition, he was the Rice PI for the National
Space Biomedical Research Institute's Data Archive Project, and serves
on various committees including the Rice Intellectual Property/Patents
Committee, Rice Committee on Export Controls, the Rice Alliance for
Technology and Entrepreneurship Steering Committee and the Advisory
Committees for the Baker Institute for Public Policy, and the Rice
Space Institute.
Prior to joining Rice, Mr. Elam had nineteen years experience in the computing industry with IBM.His experience in industry ranged from development engineering and product planning to research and program management.His industrial projects included the NASA Earth Observing System, DOE Superconducting Super Collider, and the DOD Joint Training Analysis Simulation Center.
